Dane County family builds popcorn business to create flexible work for sons with disabilities

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – For Ezra and Ivan Burger, their family’s new popcorn business is about more than selling snacks — it’s a chance to work around their health needs.

The brothers, ages 18 and 12, were both born with a mitochondrial disease that caused their hearts to fail when they were toddlers. Both received heart transplants. Ezra is now 16 years post-transplant, and Ivan is 10 years post-transplant.

Now, their family is building Brave Hearts Gourmet Popcorn, a business all three Burger children can take part in together.
