Madison Police warn of debit, credit card thefts from unlocked cars outside westside gym

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – Madison Police Department is warning gym-goers on the city’s west side to lock their vehicles after at least 20 credit and debit cards were stolen from unlocked cars since the start of the year.

All of the thefts have happened at or near the Crunch Fitness on Mineral Point Road.

MPD said the suspect has tried to make fraudulent purchases each time a card is stolen, sometimes spending hundreds to thousands of dollars. The suspect has successfully used the cards 10 times.

The thefts have happened at all times of the day, police said. The unauthorized purchases typically happen within an hour of the cards being stolen…
