Tundra swan found near Stoughton recovers from lead poisoning

MADISON, Wis. — A tundra swan found with lead poisoning near Stoughton two months ago is continuing to receive specialized treatment and is even swimming again.

The Dane County Humane Society became aware of the swan when someone discovered the animal alone in a farm field on March 22.

Once admitted, it was determined that the swan suffered from dangerously high lead toxicity and was extremely thin, suggesting it had not been eating for some time. Officials said the animal also tested positive for a mild strain of avian influenza…
