ATLANTA (WJBF) – Thousands of Georgia families could soon have more public school choices after the State Charter Schools Commission of Georgia approved four new public charter schools set to open for the 2027-2028 school year.
The newly approved schools include a statewide online charter school and new campuses planned for Dublin, Valdosta and Sandy Springs. Supporters say the expansion is a step toward addressing the growing demand for charter schools across the state.
“We rank dead last in terms of charter school access,” said Donovan Head, executive director of the State Charter Schools Commission of Georgia. “You take the other top nine most populated states, they have one charter school for every 55,000 residents. In Georgia, that’s one for every 118,000.”…
