A Georgia couponer accused of perpetrating “a pattern of forgeries” at stores across the state, has found out his fate – and he won’t be redeeming any forged coupons again any time soon.
30-year-old Michael Justin Williams of Douglasville has been handed a lengthy sentence for using counterfeit cigarette coupons at nearly two dozen stores. He’s been ordered to serve five years behind bars, with an additional ten years of probation, and must pay $6,560.70 to three retailers he defrauded.
Williams was indicted earlier this year on six counts of forgery and one count of racketeering, for scamming three retailers on at least 20 different occasions. Prosecutors said he manipulated a real R.J. Reynolds coupon offering $8 off a carton of Newport cigarettes, to instead offer $8 off a single pack. So instead of getting a roughly 10% discount per carton, he got an 80% discount per pack…
