Memphis City Council approves street naming for Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Memphis City Council has passed a resolution to rename a street near a local middle school after Memphis wrestling Hall of Famer Jerry “The King” Lawler.

Lawler was born in Memphis and is a graduate of Memphis City Schools. A street near Treadwell Middle School will be named in Lawler’s honor. Lawler graduated from Treadwell when it was a high school.

Lawler first began wrestling in 1970, and went on to a lengthy career in the WWE including as a performer and announcer. Lawler has dealt with several health issues in recent years, including a series of strokes…
