U of M camp gives students hands-on cybersecurity experience

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — High school students spent the week learning how to defend against cyber threats during the 2026 Cyber Ambassadors Tech Camp at the University of Memphis.

Hosted by the Center for Information Assurance, part of the university’s Department of Computer Science, the camp introduced students to the principles and ethics of cybersecurity through hands-on activities.

Participants explored real-world cybersecurity concepts by working with autonomous remote-control car projects designed to simulate common cyberattacks.

Throughout the camp, students encountered scenarios involving password hacking, buffer overflow attacks and man-in-the-middle attacks, giving them practical experience identifying and responding to digital security threats.
