Created to Stop Another Eliza Fetcher Case, Board Finds Widespread Problems

Leaders of a board created by state lawmakers in the wake of the kidnapping and murder of Eliza Fletcher said Monday the disciplinary system it was created to oversee is broken and that they get little help from the Tennessee Department of Correction (TDOC) to fix it.

Corrections were the focus of a state Senate hearing Monday. Senators heard from TDOC, the Tennessee District Attorneys Association, and the Inmate Disciplinary Oversight Board (IDOB).

That board was created by the Tennessee General Assembly in 2023 following the 2022 abduction and murder of Fletcher, a Memphis teacher.
