Mesa neighbors protect mother, children from axe-wielding ex-husband before police shooting

MESA, AZ (AZFamily) — Neighbors in a Mesa neighborhood are being praised for their bravery after stepping in to protect a mother and her children from an armed man before he was shot and killed by police Monday night.

The incident began just after 7 p.m. near Mountain and Lindsay roads. Mesa police responded to a report of a domestic dispute and found Perry Forster, 59, arguing outside his home with his ex-wife and children while holding a shovel.

Neighbor Josh Schweikart made the initial call to 911 after hearing the woman screaming for help. Schweikart quickly ushered the mother and children into his garage for safety…
