Should Waste Management Phoenix Open stop selling alcohol after drunken fans controversy?

If the Waste Management Phoenix Open has an excessive alcohol consumption problem, could Prohibition at “The People’s Open” be a way to end the issue?

Some on social media have called for the PGA Tour event to not sell alcohol at the event in the wake of the controversy over drunk and unruly fans at the TPC Scottsdale over the weekend.

The wild gallery forced tournament organizers and police to stop selling alcoholic beverages on Saturday, and some people have wondered if that could be the permanent way to go for the event.

“I think you should hold the event without alcohol sales,” one social media user posted on X Sunday morning. “Give the actual sport and actual golf fans a chance to have fun and be good hosts. Right now all anyone sees about this event is dangerously drunk people embarrassing themselves.

That would certainly be a way to temper the crowds at the event.

But is it necessary to stop selling all alcohol at the WM Phoenix Open after the 2024 tournament debacle?
