State Rep. Elliot Engen, who was arrested in March on suspicion of drunken driving, quietly dropped his bid for state auditor and will instead run for a new term in the Minnesota House.
The Lino Lakes Republican filed campaign paperwork on Tuesday, the last date candidates were able to register for state-level offices. He will challenge party-endorsed Sebastian Stoss in the Aug. 11 primary for House District 36A.

Engen, who maintains an active presence on social media, had not posted about his campaign for auditor since his March 27 arrest in White Bear Lake. Nor did he publicly announce his intention to run again for his House seat.
