Severe storm brings heavy hail and widespread outages, causing havoc at Twin Cities events

A severe thunderstorm swept through the north Twin Cities metro, cutting power to tens of thousands of homes and disrupting a number of outdoor events as people took cover from large hail and high winds.

The storm turned severe as it entered the Twin Cities metro Friday evening, tracking a line that headed southeast through the northern half of Minneapolis, Roseville and into St. Paul, where hail of over an inch in diameter was reported.

At its height, more than 25,000 homes were without power due to storm damage, with around 6,500 still without power as of 7:15 a.m. Saturday…
