Thousands of residents were without power on Sunday morning after thunderstorms brought heavy rain and gusty winds to the Twin Cities region.
The Xcel Energy Outage Map as of 10:15 a.m. shows almost 13,000 homes without power, most of them in the Twin Cities with others in central Minnesota and southwestern Minnesota, where storms turned severe on Sunday morning.
The Twin Cities has been hammered by heavy rain as well as some wind gusts, the latter of which are expected to continue after the rain leaves, according to the National Weather Service.
