Walz visits HCMC after lawmakers reach deal to stabilize hospital funds

MINNEAPOLIS — Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz is headed to Hennepin County Medical Center on Wednesday after lawmakers passed a funding and bonding bill to keep the struggling hospital afloat.

Legislators passed a $1.2 billion bonding bill for infrastructure on Sunday night. The HCMC funding and bonding bill were two of the last items on the list before the 2026 session concluded and they passed with bipartisan support.

HCMC will receive $205 million in immediate assistance and access to $500 million in reserve funding through 2031…
