MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — Construction officially started Monday on the City of Mobile’s new animal shelter, marking a major step toward improving care for animals and expanding adoption opportunities.

Crews started demolishing two warehouses at what used to be the old Trinity Broadcasting Network on the West I-65 Service Road.
The $6.3 million animal shelter will feature 120 large dog kennels, almost 30 more than what’s available at the current shelter. This will allow room for outdoor play yards for the animals to enjoy themselves.
Robert Bryant, the director of Animal Services for the City of Mobile, said, “Being able to get them outdoors in the sunlight, playing with each other, helps improve their well-being.”…
