Mobile City Council approves new scooter contract

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – The City Council voted Tuesday to approve a new contract with a company that operates scooters for rent in the city.

The contract with Lime is for three years and comes with big changes.

Currently, the scooters can go 10 to 12 mph. Under the agreement approved Tuesday, they will be slowed to 8 mph. The city also is committing to making sure that scooters are corralled more frequently from sidewalks and storefronts. Drop-off locations will be painted bright green and clearly marked throughout downtown, while the Lime app will direct riders to the nearest location…
