Mobile, AL — Mobile is expanding its partnership with Lime scooters as city leaders push to shift the service from a mostly recreational downtown amenity into a broader transportation option tied to public transit.
A contract extension for Lime was approved today, extending the original three-year agreement for another three years, with an optional two-year renewal after that. City officials said the goal is to build on what the city has learned over the past three years and “reconceive how people view” Lime.
Under the expanded agreement, the city plans a larger service area, designated key locations for scooter parking and a 24-hour redeployment system, in which Lime workers collect scooters and return them to their stations. City officials said the previous system allowed scooters to sit for 72 hours before a geolocator “ping” triggered a pickup, but they found that approach ineffective…
