Advocates urge Baldwin County leaders to address growing homelessness crisis

BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. (WKRG) – Homelessness advocates are calling for help from community leaders, saying Baldwin County residents are feeling the crisis more than ever.

“When you have an elderly gentleman with stage four cancer sleeping in his car on oxygen because he lost his housing, we need to address that,” Michelle Hillman, the executive director of the nonprofit organization Sea Glass Initiative, said.

Homelessness is an issue that local advocates said many people don’t expect to hear about in Baldwin County.

“We do have homelessness,” Hillman said. “It’s often invisible and I like to say it’s very quiet.”…
