BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAYS: Tropical Storm Arthur formed Wednesday off the coast of Texas and this morning, has weakened into a post-tropical system. The moisture plume is moving inland, spreading widespread rain north into Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. Plan for heavy downpours and a few embedded storms through this evening.
We have declared First Alert Weather Days for the risk of flooding and also a low-end risk for an isolated tornado. The greatest impacts are expected south of I-20 where rain totals could exceed 4 to 5 inches. Some locations in south Alabama could upwards of 10 inches in Mobile and Baldwin counties.
FRIDAY INTO THE WEEKEND: Scattered storms stay high through Friday as a front moves in and then stalls over the area. Expect more thunderstorms, and a few of these storms could be strong with gusty winds. The front stalls across the state on Saturday, keeping rain around through the weekend and increasing flooding concerns. The flood watch and First Alert Weather Days may need to be extended into Saturday if this trend continues…
