BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. (WKRG) – A tiny bird is helping researchers answer some big questions, as local researchers tracked a hummingbird from Baldwin County to Alaska.

Officials with local research group the Banding Coalition of the Americas say one hummingbird tagged right here in Baldwin County traveled thousands of miles, flying from Lillian, Alabama all the way to Juneau, Alaska in just 38 days.
“Up until about two years ago, we didn’t have technology that was small enough to be used regularly,” Kyle Shepard with the Banding Coalition of the Americas (BCA) said.
Now, BCA researchers that are permitted through the U.S. Geological Survey’s Bird Banding Laboratory are using tiny solar-powered transmitters about the size of a grain of rice to track hummingbird migration patterns across the globe…
