MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – The Women’s Resource Center (WRC) is expanding its reach in the Semmes community to bring vital healthcare and family services directly to local residents.
Starting September 1, WRC’s confidential, cost-free medical van will be stationed at the Semmes Community Center from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. every other Tuesday. Britney Hines, a registered nurse staffing the medical unit, shared that the van will offer critical services including pregnancy testing, ultrasounds, STI testing, pregnancy options education, parenting classes, and community referrals, removing barriers and making care accessible to everyone.
WRC’s commitment to families extends far beyond initial pregnancy decisions. Shelby Thompson, WRC’s Director of Education and Empowerment, emphasized the importance of helping mothers feel equipped and confident rather than just supported. Through programs like “Empowered Parent” and the organization’s “Baby Boutique,” WRC offers parenting education and practical resources, ensuring that families in Semmes have a reliable partner they can return to as their needs evolve…
