Prichard students train for high-demand auto careers at Faulkner Career Technical Center

MOBILE COUNTY, Ala. (WKRG) — From the classroom to the auto shop, automotive students at Faulkner Career Technical Center in Prichard are learning what it takes to keep vehicles safe on the road.

“We’re changing the engine in the Chrysler. We’ve got something to do with the Kia,” program second-year student Bailey Crawford said.

“Anything that you do to a car, we do it here. This is a full-fledged shop. We do everything,” Instructor Donald Knapp said.

Some of the vehicles students work on are donated by local dealerships, but others belong to real customers. Knapp said that isn’t all that makes shop life feel like the real thing.

“We’re doing workplace simulation. They clock in and out, they wear a uniform,” Knapp explained. “I have a parts person. I have a service writer. You know, I’ve got a lead technician. You know, I’ve got regular technicians. I’ve got somebody that knows a little bit of everything.”…
