MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — A Mobile city councilman who previously raised concerns about the timeline for the new Regions Arena is now weighing in on the decision to push the project past Mardi Gras.

District 4 Councilman Ben Reynolds said Tuesday he believes the city made the right decision not to accommodate 2027 Mardi Gras events.
Reynolds said trying to finish only portions of the arena needed for Mardi Gras could have disrupted the larger construction schedule and potentially added costs.
“If you modify their building schedule to accommodate Mardi Gras, which would be finishing out only the areas that Mardi Gras use you’re sort of messing up the entire schedule where you’re probably going to take longer than what you ordinarily would have and that’s going to come with a cost that there’s contractors and planners and schedulers and engineers,” said Reynolds…
