Invest 92L Could Become Hurricane Isaias Before Landfall Near Southeast Louisiana and Mississippi Coast With Alabama Facing Heavy Rain and Isolated Tornadoes

GULF COAST — Invest 92L in the southwestern Gulf is drawing growing attention as the latest overnight model guidance trends more aggressive with its intensity. Several models now suggest the system could become a hurricane before making landfall Friday night or Saturday. If the system strengthens into a named storm, it will be called Isaias. Most track models are clustered around southeast Louisiana and the Mississippi coast, placing Alabama on the stronger east side of the system.

Intensity Guidance Trends More Aggressive

Overnight intensity guidance shows most models strengthening Invest 92L into a tropical storm over the next two to three days. Many models then bring the system to Category 1 hurricane strength near the 84-hour mark.

A few models are even stronger, with one showing Category 2 strength and another reaching Category 3 before weakening. These higher solutions remain outliers, but they highlight the potential for rapid strengthening over warm Gulf waters.
