Community flocks to Bienville Square as it reopens to the public

MOBILE, Ala. ( WKRG ) — Bienville Square reopened to the public on Friday after being closed for eight months.

The park was originally closed in August so renovations could take place, WKRG News 5 reported. Upgrades included lighting, sidewalks, bluestone pavers, wall benches, and the restoration of the iconic Ketchum fountain.

The fountain was removed from the park in 2021 for the restoration. It was the first time the fountain was restored. The fountain has since been re-installed and water has been flowing from it since March.

People gathered at the park once the renovations were unveiled.

Eric Jones, a local videographer said he didn’t know the nearly 200-year-old park would be open, but after seeing the new upgrades, he was glad he came.

“I actually love what I see. It’s a nice new look. I like the new waterfall here. I like the landscape,” he said. “It looks very well put together.”
