Alabama shark attack alert system goes live

BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. (WALA) – Alabama’s shark attack alert system is officially online.

The system will send an alert to cell phones if there is a confirmed attack and the recipient is within the alert zone.

Before an alert goes out, there must be a confirmed shark attack by a first responder agency. If that happens along a Baldwin County beach, it will trigger the warning system and anyone south of the Intracoastal Waterway from Fort Morgan to the Alabama-Florida line would receive the alert. The system also covers Dauphin Island in Mobile County.

‘Lulu’s Law’

The system was created in light of an attack in the summer of 2024. Alabama lawmakers passed what’s referred to as “Lulu’s Law.”…
