MOBILE COUNTY, Ala. (WKRG) — The first victim to die from Vibrio in Mobile County this year had his funeral on Friday.

WKRG News 5 exclusively spoke to the 73-year-old’s family, who said the flesh-eating bacteria spread to his entire body in less than 48 hours.

It started as an ordinary day for Michael Mallinis on his wharf off Mobile Bay back in April.

“He was emptying his crab traps, and apparently, he got water from the crab traps all over his legs, and he didn’t think anything about it,” said his sister Rita Mallini.

A cut on his leg changed everything in just two days.
