St. Paul’s Episcopal teacher overwhelmed with emotion after receiving Golden Apple award

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) —The tears were flowing when we surprised this week’s Golden Apple award-winner at St. Paul’s Episcopal School. Our winner is Dr. Yinka Fagbongbe.

Confusion, low turnout feared in Alabama Primaries

She teaches Middle School English and High School Psychology at St. Paul’s. She was completely caught off guard and felt very thankful for the honor. She was also very excited because her husband and son came with our caravan to surprise her. Dr. Fagbongbe said that teaching is her calling.

“Thank you so much for this. It means the world to me. I do it for my students…the only people my husband is jealous of! When I’m not here, I think about them. When I’m not. When I’m here, I worry about them. I am going to dedicate this to my parents, who are teachers. They sent five children to graduate school on a teacher’s salary.”

She was nominated by two of her former students, Townsend West and Kathryn Green.

“Dr. Fagbongbe has given me a reason to wake up and go to school. She is my favorite teacher so far, and I am so glad I was a part of her class,” Townsend wrote on the nomination form…
