A new, “green” project hopes to address standing water and flooding in a Prichard neighborhood, a chronic health hazard and part of a larger problem across the small city.
The Gulf Village Green Infrastructure Project, a $435,000 initiative to combat standing water and drainage issues in Gulf Village in Prichard, was completed last month. The Mobile Bay National Estuary Program, the Mobile Housing Authority, nonprofit Light of the Village and several other groups collaborated. It is a first-of-its-kind partnership.
“For years, residents in Gulf Village have dealt with flooding challenges that affected everyday life,” Prichard Mayor Carletta Davis said in a news release. “This project is about more than drainage improvements.
