3-year-old, 2 others, rescued from Stanislaus River near Stouffer Park

(FOX40.COM) — A 3-year-old and two other people were rescued Tuesday afternoon from the Stanislaus River near Stouffer Park, according to the Ripon Consolidated Fire District.

Officials said crews responded to reports of three people, including a 3-year-old, in the Stanislaus River around 4 p.m.

Crews with Ripon Fire, Salida Fire, Modesto Fire and Stanislaus Consolidated Fire entered the water, found the people and secured them until a boat arrived. They were taken to shore and evaluated before it was determined that no one was injured.

“This incident is an important reminder that the Stanislaus River can be extremely dangerous,” officials with Ripon Fire said. “At the time of the rescue, river flows were approximately 1,554 cubic feet per second and was 59 degrees. Fast-moving water, strong currents, and unseen hazards can quickly turn a day of recreation into an emergency.”…
