CERES, Calif. — Leilani Cienega had been counting down to this Saturday for months. The fifth grader from Sinclear Elementary trained with her school’s running club, laced up her sneakers, and imagined the rush of crossing the finish line at Modesto’s annual “10K with a Cop.”
She had dreamed of the medal that awaited her at the end.
