DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) -A viral Facebook graphic falsely claims an Alabama bill requiring teachers to report students who smell like marijuana was signed into law, effective Oct. 1. The bill never became law.
House Bill 72, introduced by Rep. Patrick Sellers in January, would have banned smoking marijuana or vaping with a child present in a vehicle. The bill would also have required teachers and mandatory reporters to file reports with the Department of Human Resources against parents whose children smell of marijuana, and required DHR to investigate.
Bill passed the House, died in the Senate
The bill passed the House but stalled in the Senate, where it died once the legislative session concluded.
