NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — A stomach bug is making hundreds of people sick across the country.
The Center for Disease Control (CDC) says more than 800 people in 31 states have reported suffering from cyclosporiasis, an illness caused by the microscopic parasite Cyclospora cayetanensis. The parasite causes debilitating diarrhea, cramps, bloating and fatigue that can last for weeks. People become infected through contaminated food or water. Experts advise consumers to wash all produce thoroughly and wash their hands frequently.
At least 86 people have been hospitalized. Between 11 and 30 people in Tennessee are suffering from the stomach bug, and between 31 and 80 people in Kentucky are also affected according to the CDC…
