KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) – Drivers heading down I-40 East in Tennessee may have heard a ton of buzzing in the air after approximately one million bees were released when a truck that was hauling them crashed.
According to the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT), the crash occurred Friday morning near a ramp off of I-40 near Knoxville, which had to be closed after the mishap.
Once the ramp reopened, officials warned drivers to keep their windows shut due to the number of bees still in the area following the crash.

“Unless you are dressed in this outfit, please stay in your vehicles in this area,” said Matt Nagi of the TDOT, referring to a photo of an individual wearing beekeeping protective wear.
After a couple hours, the bees were successfully removed from the area but traffic remained backed up…
