That burst pushed the August rainfall total so far to nearly two and a half inches, with combined July and August totals now approaching six inches.
Rainfall Exceeds Spring Totals Combined
Data from WMBF First Alert Weather shows that rainfall recorded over the past five weeks totals 5.69 inches, an amount that exceeds the combined rainfall recorded during March, April, May, and June for the Myrtle Beach area, marking a significant shift in the region’s recent precipitation pattern.
Radar imagery from Wednesday morning shows heavy rain bands moving through the Grand Strand region, with the most intense rainfall rates concentrated near Myrtle Beach, Surfside Beach, and Murrells Inlet, while lighter activity extended toward Conway, Aynor, and Johnsonville.
Rain Beginning to Chip Away at Drought Conditions
Officials note that this stretch of heavy rain is beginning to put a dent in the drought conditions that had been affecting the Myrtle Beach area in recent months. The August 1 through 5 rainfall total alone stands at 2.41 inches, a substantial early-month total for the coastal community.
The intensity of the recent rain, particularly the half-inch burst recorded in just thirty minutes Wednesday morning, highlights the heavier, more tropical nature of the rainfall pattern currently affecting the Grand Strand region.
