More than 100 dogs are expected to trot, prance and strut through Aurora’s Wilder Park this Sunday, Oct. 4, as the city’s Pooch Parade returns for its eighth year with costume contests, food trucks and a fresh new venue. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Wilder Park & Promenade, 350 N. River St., with the parade itself kicking off at 11 a.m.
The City of Aurora says applications for the 2026 parade close once the first 125 entries have been submitted, according to The Voice. As reported by Shaw Local, more than 100 dogs are set to take part this year, competing for titles like largest dog, smallest dog, best costume, twinsies, most energetic and fan favorite.
Owners hoping to bring a pup still need to meet the event’s baseline safety standards. Participating dogs must be current on rabies vaccinations, stay on a standard non-retractable leash, and sit the event out if they show aggressive or reactive behavior, according to the event listing. Dogs and owners don’t have to be entered in the competition to enjoy the morning, though — Shaw Local notes that spectating, shopping the vendor booths and watching the costume contest are open to everyone.
A New Home at Wilder Park
This year marks a change of scenery for the parade, which moved to Wilder Park & Promenade after being held at the Sunken Garden of Phillips Park during its seventh annual run last October, when Aurora Animal Care and Control offered free pet microchipping alongside donation collection, according to Enjoy Illinois. Check-in for this year’s registered entries runs from 10 to 10:45 a.m., with vendor booths and photo stations staying open until noon and costume judging set for 11 a.m. to noon, per city guidelines…
