Criminal charges against the “Broadview Six” were dropped months ago, but for them the case is now an attempt to seek accountability for the reported misconduct by federal prosecutors — even though their pursuit of justice means higher legal bills for the former defendants.
“I’m still willing to pay (additional attorney fees) to get to the accountability I think is crucial … for the city and across our country,” said 45th Ward Democratic Committeeperson Michael Rabbitt, who through Aug. 31 has racked up $360,000 in attorney fees in the case.
At this point he’s paid more than half of that, using $110,000 from his retirement savings. He’s also raised $100,000 in donations for his legal defense fund, including a www.gofundme.com account, but those donations have slowed since the charges were dropped…
