Collier County to remove 72 license plate readers to comply with FDOT mandate

Collier County Sheriff Kevin Rambosk has ordered the removal of 72 license plate readers.

The action is in response to a mandate by the Florida Department of Transportation. On Aug. 31, the department directed the removal of all automated license plate readers, including Flock cameras, from state roads and rights-of-way within 30 days.

In Collier County, it will result in the removal of both mobile and fixed readers by next month. Mobile ones are often used in patrol cars, while fixed ones are typically mounted on streetlights and utility poles…
