Crime in Nashville: Most violent offenses decreasing except for rape

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A little more than two months into 2024, preliminary data shows violent crimes are still trending lower than they were a year ago in Nashville and Davidson County, with one exception.

As of March 2, 2024, homicide was down more than 50% compared to the same time last year, with data also showing slight decreases in incidences of robbery and aggravated assault. However, reports of rape have continued to rise this year.

So far, the Metro Nashville Police Department has received 93 reports of rape two months into 2024, with a 233% increase in reports out of the Central Precinct. That data is derived from unofficial reports in the MNPD’s weekly crime initiative book .
