New Orleans public housing authority will manage Guste Homes after water bill, vacancy issues

New Orleans’ public housing agency will oversee Guste Homes following mounting scrutiny of the resident management corporation that has overseen the 685-unit complex for decades.

The shift comes as part of a plan developed by the Housing Authority of New Orleans and the Department of Housing and Urban Development, which earlier this year threatened to shutter part of the Central City complex, citing high vacancy rates.
