Before it opens for the night, it might be easy to pass right by Snake and Jake’s Christmas Club Lounge and assume it was just some shed with an old beer sign outside. But behind its door is a storied New Orleans dive bar, a perpetually dark, late-night oasis for cheap drinks and easy vibes tucked into its neighborhood near Tulane and Loyola universities.
It captivated Anthony Bourdain, who once called Snake and Jake’s a “national treasure.”
Bourdain, the late chef-turned-TV host and global food culture adventurer, had a strong affinity for the food and the drinking culture of New Orleans, as was well documented through his books and travel shows.
