Ankle monitoring company threatens to end New Orleans program, return clients to court

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – A local ankle monitoring company says it plans to bring every person in its New Orleans program back to court — and possibly back to jail — as soon as Monday.

ASAP Monitoring sent a letter to the city stating that it can no longer cover the costs of the service it provides. The company said it plans to end its monitoring program in New Orleans by Aug. 1.

In the letter, ASAP said it has witnessed what it alleges is a concerted effort to depopulate the city’s “digital jail,” which has severely damaged its ability to provide services. The letter does not provide specifics about the allegations it raises…
