Destrehan man arrested, accused of stealing copper and fleeing from deputies in ATV

A Destrehan man has been arrested after he allegedly stole copper wire from a business in LaPlace.

St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested Christopher Fontaine, 40, and booked him on simple burglary-immovable structure, possession of methamphetamine – less than 28 grams, prohibited acts, drug paraphernalia, resisting an officer by flight and contempt of court.

Deputies say while patrolling on Wednesday around 7:35 p.m., they observed a man on an ATV leaving a side business gate of the Bayou Steel Plant in LaPlace. They say they also observed a second ATV that was traveling behind the suspect on the first four-wheeler…
