Social media video shows flash flooding across New Orleans metro

Some roads in New Orleans and in Metairie are impassible because of flash flooding caused by Saturday’s heavy rains.

Videos posted to social media show streets in the Central Business District, Uptown, the Bywater, and other sections of New Orleans inundated with rainwater. In some of those videos, cars are seen trying to pass through flooded streets. Our partners at NOLA.com report that some of those cars stalled.

Meanwhile, video from Jefferson Parish shows high water on Old Metairie Road. At-large Councilman Scott Walker posted video showing drivers pushing wakes towards businesses along the street.

The National Weather Service estimates that at least five inches of rain has fallen on the New Orleans metro area, leading to this flooding. The New Orleans Sewerage and Water Board took one of its turbines offline during the deluge because of what it said was a mechanical error.
