Mystery Man Wanted As Key Witness In Canal Street Break-In

New Orleans police are asking for the public’s help tracking down a man they believe could be the missing puzzle piece in a French Quarter business burglary investigation. Detectives say a shop in the 500 block of Canal Street was hit in the predawn hours of April 21, and on Tuesday the department released a surveillance photo of a man they think might know what happened.

Investigators are stressing that the man in the images is not accused of anything. He is being sought strictly as a person who may have important information, and officers are hoping anyone who recognizes him will come forward. Neighbors, hotel guests, and visitors with cameras or doorbell systems near the 500 block are being urged to scroll back through their footage from that night and see if they caught anything useful.

Police Release Photo, Ask For Leads

According to NOPD News, the business burglary happened around 12:05 a.m. on April 21 in the 500 block of Canal Street. The man shown in the released images “is believed to possess information important to the investigation,” the department wrote.

Officers posted several surveillance stills on the department’s news site and asked the community to study them closely. In the same notice, NOPD underlined that the individual “is NOT wanted for this crime” and should be treated as a witness or potential source of information if spotted, not as a suspect.
