NOPD investigates fifth officer for timekeeping misconduct as former superintendent calls for accountability

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – The New Orleans Police Department is investigating a fifth officer for potential timekeeping misconduct, and a former superintendent says consequences should extend up the chain of command.

The biometric devices the department started using to ensure officers show up for all scheduled and overtime shifts have been in precincts for years.

FOX 8’s monthslong investigation into NOPD overtime and timekeeping practices showed four of the department’s highest-paid officers at home while they were being paid taxpayer dollars. Sgt. Henry Burke now faces 10 felony counts linked to payroll fraud. Three others — Sgts. Bianca Boone and Rene Benjamin, as well as Senior Police Officer Brandon Coleman, are under active internal investigations by the NOPD linked to the reporting…
