A fast-moving line of severe storms triggered multiple tornado warnings across the metro New Orleans area early this morning, prompting residents on the southshore to seek shelter as conditions deteriorated quickly across several communities.
The warnings covered River Ridge, Harahan, Waggaman, and Westwego, with the National Weather Service extending the alert through 7:30 a.m. CDT for those areas. The storm line stretched west into Acadiana and was tracking toward St. Bernard Parish as it continued moving east.
Where the concern was highest
The westbank and Uptown New Orleans drew the most urgent attention from local meteorologists as the storms developed. Communities including Marrero, Westwego, and Terrytown were identified as areas of particular concern during early today broadcasts, with residents urged to move immediately to interior rooms or the lowest floor of a sturdy building and away from windows.
