New Orleans housing authority working to bring 1,000 affordable homes online

New Orleans’ public housing agency is working to make 1,000 affordable apartments available by the end of 2027, in a city that has struggled with an affordable housing shortage.

That includes 320 affordable apartments that HANO has made available for lease since January 2025, with new tenants moved in or set to move in within weeks, said Executive Director Marjorianna Willman.
