Jurors began deliberating Thursday afternoon in the murder trial of Cache Shelton after prosecutors and defense attorneys delivered sharply contrasting accounts of what happened inside a downtown New Orleans hotel room when Shelton’s boyfriend, Nicolas Harrison, was shot through the forehead in December 2022.
The case went to the jury after Shelton spent roughly 2½ hours on the witness stand over two days, calmly defending herself under aggressive cross-examination from New Orleans District Attorney Jason Williams about changes to her story in the hours after Harrison’s death.
Williams focused heavily on Shelton’s evolving explanations to detectives — first claiming Harrison shot himself, then saying the gun fired accidentally during a struggle, and finally testifying Harrison had beaten her with the gun before it discharged…
