Jersey City Mayor James Solomon is calling for 100 percent affordable housing at the Maureen Collier Senior Center on the city’s west side as part of a comprehensive renovation plan.
“I am committed to taking on the affordability crisis in Jersey City, and today’s announcement is another step towards that goal. The Maureen Collier Senior Center has been a second home for seniors in this neighborhood for decades, and they deserve a building that matches everything they have given to this city,” Solomon said in a statement.
“Our vision is a modern center with real investment behind it and affordable homes so seniors can keep living in the community. Jersey City owns this land, and we should use it for the people who need it most.”
The property, located at 335 Bergen Ave., is currently not zoned for any kind of housing and would be the first 100 percent senior affordable housing project in Jersey City in roughly a decade, according to the mayor’s office…
